Therapy with Adults
You’re having a really hard time. Sometimes, the anxiety you feel goes through the roof and other times, the depression sends you into despair. You feel defeated. You’re not living the kind of life you hoped for. You wonder, what is the matter with you? However good your accomplishments, they don’t reflect how badly you feel about yourself. Sometimes, you feel like a phony. You feel like you’re hiding yourself even from your closest friends. In romantic relationships, even if they are good for a while, you end up feeling misused and defeated. You’re tired of having to hold yourself together and put on a good front. You worry you’ll end up alone. Sometimes, you think you’re “crazy”. You worry that you are broken beyond repair.
I work with adults struggling with overwhelming anxiety or depression, whether these feelings come from current ongoing stress or past difficult or traumatic experiences. I welcome you and all your feelings, creating safety with you so you can share whatever you want, when you want to. From the first session on, we explore new ways to move through difficult feelings and experiences. We talk and laugh, even in the midst of challenges, and don’t stay stuck in the past. My clients report that over time, they feel compassion towards themselves. They develop ways to respond flexibly to challenging situations and feelings. The sense of being phony recedes as life becomes more satisfying, and they begin to feel true to themselves.
My approach is collaborative and supportive. I use mindfulness practices and knowledge of how the body responds to stress and trauma to promote self-awareness that leads to new approaches to living. I use guided somatic (body-based) awareness that promotes emotional and physiological balance, also called nervous system regulation, in your system. As our work progresses, you’ll find yourself with a greater capacity to handle whatever comes your way.
